There are an estimated 3.3 million lost pension pots in the UK, worth £31.1 billion in total. The average lost pot is £9,470, rising to £13,620 for ages 55 to 75.
National Pension Tracing Day (NPTD) was founded in 2021 - an initiative aimed at encouraging the nation to look for lost pensions. Founder sponsors were Aegon, Legal & General, Scottish Widows and Standard Life, and they’ve since been joined by Aviva, Hargreaves Lansdown, Royal London, Smart Pension and People’s Pension.
National Pension Tracing Day helps people find lost or forgotten workplace and personal pensions. It runs through October and focuses on activity on Sunday 26 October 2025, when the clocks go back and everyone gains an extra hour.
